One of Nottingham’s most iconic cultural landmarks, Malt Cross has been awarded bronze place for the best pubs in Nottinghamshire at the Visit Nottinghamshire Tourism Awards 2026!
Shortlisted for Pub of the Year, the Malt Cross team was recognised for its dedication to the community, inclusive and welcoming space, and high-quality food and drink offerings.
Delivered by Visit Nottinghamshire, accredited by VisitEngland as the region’s Local Visitor Economy Partnership (LVEP), the awards recognised excellence in tourism and hospitality across the county. The 2026 ceremony culminated in a joint celebration with Visit Peak District & Derbyshire, as the two LVEPs came together once again for a shared awards event.
Held on 18 March 2026 at Derby County Football Club’s Pride Park Stadium, the evening honoured gold, silver and bronze winners across 17 categories per LVEP. These ranged from accommodation providers and visitor attractions to pubs, unique experiences, and the individuals behind them.

Among those recognised was Malt Cross, following its ongoing success within Nottinghamshire’s hospitality scene.
Built in 1877 as a Victorian music hall, the Malt Cross remains one of the UK’s few surviving examples of its kind – never demolished or structurally altered. Over the decades, it has been a music venue, a coffee house, and now a not-for-profit pub and heritage space, with every pint and plate of food served contributing to the community.
Unlike many, the Malt Cross reinvests all of its bar and kitchen surplus into the YMCA Robin Hood Group, supporting young people and families across Nottinghamshire. Customers aren’t just enjoying a drink or meal – they’re part of something bigger. As one reviewer put it:
“It’s one of my favourite places in Nottingham. A former historic music hall, with many of its old features and glass vaulted roof, makes for a very atmospheric venue… The staff are always very helpful and friendly, making every visit a joy.”
To be named among Nottinghamshire’s top three pubs is a significant achievement, one that reflects everything Malt Cross stands for: heritage, authenticity, inclusivity, culture, and community.
Speaking on this accomplishment, Malt Cross’ General Manager Joel Lydamore shares:
“Being named alongside the best pubs in Nottinghamshire is a real honour for the team. It means a lot to know that what we’re building here is recognised and appreciated.”
Malt Cross also extends their congratulations to fellow finalists The Reindeer at Hoveringham and The Old Volunteer for their Gold and Silver awards and thanked their loyal customers for their continued support over the past year.
As Malt Cross continues to build on its legacy, this latest recognition highlights not only its place within Nottinghamshire’s hospitality scene, but its ongoing commitment to creating a space where heritage, community and culture come together.
They also invite the community to join in the celebrations throughout the year – whether for food, drinks, live events, or simply to experience one of Nottingham’s most unique and welcoming spaces.
